DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in libpng, which can be exploited
by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) against
applications using libpng or potentially compromise a vulnerable
system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the
"png_set_strip_alpha()" function within the handling of a PNG image
file containing alpha channels. This can be exploited to cause a
heap-based buffer overflow via a specially-crafted PNG file.
Successful exploitation requires that the application is written to
strip the alpha channel from a PNG file.
The vulnerability has been reported in versions 1.0.16, 1.0.17,
1.2.6, and 1.2.7.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.0.18 or 1.2.8.
