VULNERABILITY SUMMARY
A potential security vulnerability has been identified with HP Compaq Business Notebook PC BIOS. The vulnerability could
be exploited to create a Denial of Service (DoS).

RESOLUTION
HP has provided BIOS updates to resolve this vulnerability, see the table below. There are two methods one can use to
apply the updates.

Method 1:

The updates are available for download using the following procedures:

  1. Open a web browser and visit http://www.hp.com

  2. In the Search field, type the applicable SoftPaq number from the list below. Start the search.

  3. Select an item from the search results.

  4. Select Installation Instructions for further information.

Method 2:

  1. Open a web browser and visit http://www.hp.com

  2. Click on the link for HP Software & Drivers downloads web site

  3. On the Support & Drivers page, type the model number in the Search field and then press Enter.

  4. Select the operating system currently installed on the notebook.

  5. In the BIOS section, click WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS. The version should be listed as a BIOS version from
    the table below or a later version.

  6. Click the Download only button on the page to begin the download of the BIOS update. Save the file to a convenient
    folder on the PC.

  7. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation. Follow all prompts and restart the notebook when requested
    by the installation. Do not turn off the notebook until prompted to do so.

Note: It is recommended that the notebook PC use an AC adapter and be connected to the Internet with an Ethernet cable
because interruptions in power or wireless connections may result in the download failing to install.
